Independent candidate for Blaxland, David Ball, responded :

“What are your thoughts on asylum seekers?
I like people and welcome asylum seekers. However, I don’t feel it is compassionate to drown desperate people and subject them to pirates. I don’t like UN refugee camps, but I believe we need to support UN process. I feel the Pacific Solution was the best policy of its time, and i think the weakening of those laws has meant many people are suffering. I believe in a big Australia and I want there to be new migrants, but I recognize there must be lots of money spent on infrastructure too, so that they can also live the Great Australian Dream.

> What are your thoughts on public transport?
Public Transport is a state issue. However, I think it is essential that it is large enough to accommodate the population and secure and stable enough to allow regular access to work. It needs to be affordable. It should be modern and well maintained. It should be clean. Cities need an effective system to accommodate tourism too. Public transport should be available as an option for private transport too. There needs to be parking available and security for bike users too.

> What are your thoughts on renewable energy?
Renewable energy is important as a goal. We mustn’t bankrupt ourselves trying to achieve what we will naturally migrate to early. I support Nuclear power too, and believe Nuclear may be an intermediary step. In the short term, i think coal power needs to be built urgently.

> Do you support or oppose the introduction of the R18+ rating
> classification for video games?
I think the full range of ratings needs to be available for all media. Including provisional ratings. Parents need simple guidelines, but adults should not be restricted by an intrusive state.

> Do you support or oppose the proposed internet filter?
I oppose the internet filter as being unworkable. I don’t accept Chinese style censorship. I am concerned that the censorship would eliminate whistle blowers without eliminating the sick porn so prevalent. . I believe that the rule of law must apply, and that if someone is doing something illegal they should be charged and face a court, but to prevent people from exercising moral judgement does not gel with my religious beliefs.
>
> Do you support or oppose gay marriage?
I prefer that there is gay civil union available in a legal sense for gays. However I would not accept that churches be compelled to marry gays if they choose not to. To endorse Gay Marriage is to invite lobbies to explore a wedge issue. I wouldn’t personally marry a gay partner, but I have no problems with others exercising their own moral choice on the issue. So I oppose any legislation which might be used to force churches to marry gays.
>
> What are your thoughts on abortion?
I accept that there may be cases where abortion is an option for medical reasons. I do not accept that abortion is a lifestyle choice.
>
> Do you support or oppose the legalisation of voluntary euthanasia?
I oppose voluntary euthanasia as I think the issue is impossible to legislate on without sanctioning murder. I think the application results in the killing of the sad and lonely. I think palliative care is sufficient, but I think it is important for loved ones to make their wishes known
>
> What are your thoughts on stem cell research?
Stem cell research is essential, but safeguards need to be in place to prevent exploitation of abortion praxis.
>
> What are your thoughts on education?
Education underpins society and culture. The longer a child spends in educational work the better they are for life. I think education needs to be flexible enough to accommodate those who would drop out, with more technical training for work life than is currently available. I think the current computers for kids is a gross invasion of privacy with camera and microphone activation by remote possible by unknown persons. I think schools need more money, but the BER is a waste of good money. I think teachers should be more accountable to parents and the current schools website is not providing enough information. I think the curriculum has been seized by the extreme left, and that a focus needs to be brought back to the basics, the three r’s for mainstream academy and better technical education for non academics.
>
> What are your thoughts on campaign finance disclosure?
I think the ALP should say where all that money comes from for them .. including the unions.
>
> What are your thoughts on climate change?
I think climate change is happening and has happened and will happen. I think the current lobby movement for AGW is rubbish. I think that when industry can address carbon emissions they will .. if it is profitable and worthwhile. I think nuclear power an important intermediate step for the future. I suspect the world is cooling.
>
> What are your thoughts on water?
I want the Bradfield Scheme to be implemented. I think it will be in the future, and I think the sooner we get started the better it will be. I want there to be more dams. I want there to be water recycling linked to Dams. I think Desalination is an expensive waste, as it has been implemented.
>
> Do you support or oppose standing order 50?
I think prayer is important. It works for me. I don’t think the standing order need be changed to increase the time spent on prayer.
>
> Are there any local issues you are trying to highlight with your campaign?
I am trying to break out the issue of Hamidur Rahman. He was a schoolboy who died from apparent school neglect. The coroner was denied testimony which would have exonerated his parents from blame for the accident. The ruling is open and coroner could hear that testimony if they thought the issue important enough, but right now the authorities claim the parents don’t want to be exonerated.
>
> What do you think about the media’s coverage of the election so far?
I think the media is spinning wildly for Gillard, but I think Mr Abbott has been too good, too professional. I think some are saying the campaign is boring because the ALP are not ahead.

My press releases are my campaign launch ..
