CDP Candidate for Pearce, Janet Broadstock, responded :

“What are your thoughts on asylum seekers?

Everyone has the right to freedom and a better way of life, but as much as
we speak about human rights, we also need to look at personal
responsibility. It is everyone’s responsibility to obey the laws in this
area. As long as we continue to allow asylum seekers to operate through
unlawful, greedy men the practice will continue.

What are your thoughts on public transport?

Public transport should be safe, reliable and accessible to all, especially
those who are disadvantaged or handicapped. It should also be a priority to
make all forms of transport safe and to ensure that those who are committing
crimes, e.g. graffiti, assault, misbehaving are properly dealt with.

What are your thoughts on renewable energy?

All Australians should be encouraged to adopt renewable forms of energy, in
particular solar power. This area should especially be addressed when
constructing new homes and buildings. For example, all new homes in South
Australia are now required to have water tanks installed to their guttering
to collect rainwater.

Do you support or oppose the introduction of the R18+ rating
classification for video games?

I support censorship of all forms. It is disgusting what is being allowed
to be shown on television these days, even on daytime viewing. There was a
time when you could watch the ABC and be assured that the programs would be
without violence, foul language, or sex!

Do you support or oppose the proposed internet filter?

Definitely. Parents cannot be with their children at all times watching
over them continually to see what they are looking at on the internet. Any
system which makes it difficult for paedaphiles to access the internet would
be a blessing.

Do you support or oppose gay marriage?

God created man and woman to be united as one. Homosexuality is an
abomination to God and a sin. Any approvals given to gays, makes it
acceptable in our society, i.e. if it’s not illegal, it’s OK.

What are your thoughts on abortion?

Abortion is murder, no matter at what stage it is carried out. The affect
that abortions are having on the women who go through this procedure is
largely overlooked, and the affect that it has on many of the men is not
even considered. Abortion affects the baby, the mother, the father and can
have even wider affect in the lives of others long after the abortion has
been carried out.

Do you support or oppose the legalisation of voluntary euthanasia?

I appose the legalization of voluntary euthanasia. It is not, and should
not, be our decision as to when we die. Also, there have been bills that
have been presented to parliament that do not even give the right of that
decision to the person or family involved.

What are your thoughts on stem cell research?

If stem cell research is allowed to go ahead, what next?!

What are your thoughts on education?

Education should be a matter concerning teachers, parents and the community
working together for the future of our children. It is the parents’
responsibility to teach their children regarding their morals, principals
and religious beliefs. However, authority should be given back to teachers
to discipline our children while in their care, within reasonable
guidelines.

What are your thoughts on campaign finance disclosure?

Every political party should be open and accountable to the public.

What are your thoughts on climate change?

God created this earth for mankind to have dominion over. We should value
that responsibility and take the necessary steps to ensure that we do not
upset the environment, which in turn can affect climatic conditions.

What are your thoughts on water?

Water is a precious commodity which all Australians need to take care of.
However, government should take seriously the suggestions of scientists, and
engineers regarding alternative water sources and look at funding for such
projects. I also believe, on a local level, that communities should be
better policed as to water usage during water restriction periods.

Do you support or oppose standing order 50?

Sorry, I don’t know what standing order 50 is.

Are there any local issues you are trying to highlight with your campaign?

I am not aware of any specific local issues in my electorate. The
population as a whole appears to be concerned with the same issues.

What do you think about the media’s coverage of the election so far?

I have been very pleased with the support that the media has been giving to
the Christian Democratic Party especially in comparison to previous
elections. The interest shown by newspapers and radio has been particularly
good. We have not been approached very much from television.
