Family First Candidate for Lindsay, John Phillips, responded :

Dear BKoP Team

—–

What are your thoughts on asylum seekers?

The Party recognises and supports Australia’s international and humanitarian

commitments in regard to asylum seekers whilst also advancing the need to

protect Australia’s borders from illegal immigration and threats to the security

and health of Australians. Family First also recognises the importance of

ensuring well managed immigration programs that whilst being supportive of

Australia’s interests are also compassionate and supportive of families.

Family First will support measures to encourage countries in our

region to become signatories to the existing Refugee Convention and to

discourage the secondary movement of asylum seekers and curb the criminal

and exploitative activity of people smuggling within their jurisdictions.

Family First supports a strictly limited period of mandatory detention

only for the purposes of assessment as to health and security risk. The

Party believes that medium security supervised hostel arrangement

should be introduced for the more appropriate housing of asylum

seekers. All unauthorized arrivals and asylum seekers should be detained

mandatorily in high secure centres for the purposes of accurately

assessing health, identity and security issues.

Marriage is ultimately for the protection of their children.

What are your thoughts on abortion?

Family First will seek to promote recognition and valuing of the inherent

Stem cell research offers new hope and life to suffers of many disorders.

I oppose the use of embryonic stem cells.

What are your thoughts on education?

I support the current Public and Private School programmes.

However Federal building projects in Public Schools should be maintained within current normal building costs.

Family First believes it is vital that values are taught in

schools; values such as honesty, compassion, politeness and

generosity. Students should be taught about individual

responsibilities as well as community obligations, as well as the

importance of resilience and coping mechanisms.

What are your thoughts on campaign finance disclosure?

My Submission on Electoral funding 2010

· My belief is that Electoral funding should not be issued to Political Parties or persons.

· That the process of Democratic Electioneering be handled by the State Electron Commission to be fair and equitable for all.

· That the closing date for all Candidates should be twelve weeks prior to an Election Day, so their citizenship status and criminal clearance be verified.

· That they not be able to electioneer using printed or verbal material promoting their Candidature stating “Vote One” or meaning the till six weeks prior to the voting date.

· That each Candidate presents a photograph, resume and policy document of about 4 pages to the State Electoral Commission on the closing date i.e. twelve weeks prior to an election.

· That the Government print a booklet for each Electorate containing the photograph, resume and policy for each Candidate running for the House of Representative in that Electorate, and include in it the same for each Candidate running for the Legislative Council.

· Include in it the sample preferences of each party or person running.

· That each Candidate sign an affidavit that the facts presented are accurate and true.

· That this booklet be delivered to each registered voter at least two weeks prior to the election date.

· That if Parties or persons wish to advertise or promote they do it at their own expense, limited to $50,000 in each Electorate with no reimbursements.

· That they still are required to account for moneys received and spent within 90 days of the Election.

For me the process should be as evaluated by members of persons as applying for a position within a Company Board. Treat the voters as shareholders and allow then to research the qualifications of each person intending to represent them.
