“Boat people” not the issue. The “plane people” are the real problem.

  • Perhaps immigration officials would be able to focus resources on removing these people who are obviously flouting the system if they didn’t have to hunt down boats around Ashmore day after day.

They don’t *have* to do anything. They could deal with far more illegal immigrants if they weren’t forced to protect the borders against refugees.

Also, it’s nice to see the Democrats returning to their compassionate roots. *cough*

  • Perhaps you have misread me, I’m all too aware that most ‘illegals’ fly here and simply don’t leave. Thats where the focus should principally be. What do you suggest Australia does- allow anyone and everyone to sail/fly here and immediately join society without proper screening?

  • Chris

No, but I think that suggesting refugees who come by boat are somehow at fault for funds not being available for policing actual illegal immigration is needlessly inflammatory.

  • Sorry Chris, that was not what I meant at all. I meant that our current government has injected millions into the boat people issue, and meanwhile others are coming through the ‘front door’ as the resources aren’t there to police them. Abbott has flogged ‘stop the boats’, but what about the bogus $30 work visa people that have come in droves through dodgy migration agents? They need to be the focus of illegal migration primarily. This is a complex issue and needs a real solution , not slogans nor bleeding hearts. May I ask who you represent, if anyone?

    Ah, apologies then.
