Greens Candidate for Hunter, Chris Parker, responded :

Hi,
Sorry for the delay,

What are your thoughts on asylum seekers?
A. Genuine Asylum Seekers should be separated immediately and integrated into the community for final assessment and acceptance.

What are your thoughts on public transport?
A. To avoid our reliance on car transport, public transport must be increased and improved to cater for population growth.

What are your thoughts on renewable energy?
A. Renewable Energy is no longer an option, it is a necessity.

Do you support or oppose the introduction of the R18+ rating
classification for video games?
A. I support this idea to be applied to games of extreme violence.

Do you support or oppose the proposed internet filter?
A. Unfortunately there is the possibility of important public information being suppressed, so I would need to see the conditions to be applied before supporting.

Do you support or oppose gay marriage?
A. I do not have a problem with the private lives of individuals where they don’t impact on the rights of others.

What are your thoughts on abortion?
A. This is a serious matter and should be the decision of the woman concerned. Do we want to return to the days when women have died because of illegal operations?

Do you support or oppose the legalisation of voluntary euthanasia?
A. This again becomes an individual choice. I wouldn’t do it, but everyone is different.

What are your thoughts on stem cell research?
A. This is a dangerous field to be headed and I believe it has the potential to get out of control, so I can’t support it, but it is really a conscience decision.

What are your thoughts on education?
A. Political parties should not be using education as a football and should consult with those who work in the industry for the right answers. Our TAFE system needs some serious change to keep up with the increase in demand for skilled tradespersons.

What are your thoughts on campaign finance disclosure?
A. Given the recent cases where campaign donations have led to a possibility of major development approvals being granted, suggesting possible influence by large investors, I believe that this is a step in the right direction for transparency in Government.

What are your thoughts on climate change?
A. There is no doubt that our climate is changing, caused by our irresponsible policies that support so called economic gains at the expense of our environment.

What are your thoughts on water?
A. Water is a valuable resource vital for the both human consumption and the growing of our fresh food. All too often this resource is destroyed with inappropriate progress and development.

Do you support or oppose standing order 50?
A.The Australian Greens oppose Standing Order 50 as it stands. In 1997, Senator Bob Brown gave notice of a motion to amend SO 50 to remove the Lord’s Prayer and replace it with an invitation to senators to pray or reflect on their responsibilities. The Greens still believe in amending SO 50, including an acknowledgement of the traditional owners.

Are there any local issues you are trying to highlight with your campaign?
A. As farmer I have serious concerns with the loss of our agricultural land and water quality and the health of residents living near coal mines and power stations.

What do you think about the media’s coverage of the election so far?
A. I have no problems with the media support I have received, considering my inability to be able to spend the money being spent by the major parties.
