Cobb Calls on Labor to Stop Closing Country Hospitals – No Ifs No Buts – We Need Our Accident and Emergency Service
17-August-2010
The closure of the Gulgong Public Hospital by the Labor Party should be ringing alarm bells right around the country.

“Gulgong is no different to any of our country towns and if it can happen in Gulgong it can happen in any of our communities,” the Member for Calare, John Cobb said today.

Mr Cobb said he was extremely concerned that smaller hospitals such as Blayney Hospital, where locals have been fighting to keep the accident and emergency service, were being downgraded by stealth.

“We should have access to accident and emergency services within our communities.

“I believe that everyone has a right to feel safe in their own communities.

“I do not expect every hospital in the electorate to offer neurosurgery, however, we are entitled to a basic level of care and it is a disgrace that the Labor Government is closing the Gulgong Hospital and replacing it with a doctor’s clinic.

Mr Cobb said whether its Oberon, Peak Hill, Forbes, Parkes, Trundle, Molong, Canowindra, or Blayney he will fight for all our towns in Calare to ensure that our hospitals are not downgraded and will guarantee that our hospitals will be run by locals for locals.
