An elected Federal Coalition Government will kick start the fundraising campaign for a youth centre and multi purpose sport and cultural facility in the northern beaches and Woolgoolga area, Federal MP Luke Hartsuyker said today.
Mr Hartsuyker today announced a Coalition funding commitment of $800,000 whilst meeting with representatives from the Northern Beaches Multi Purpose Community Facility Committee.
“This funding is a down payment on the construction cost of building a new centre for our young people and the community,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
“The Northern Beaches area continues to grow as does the demand for improved services and infrastructure. Currently the area is lacking a sporting and cultural facility where young people can participate in a range of activities.
“The committee proposes to construct an indoor community and sporting facility which would include basketball courts, a stage, a kitchen and multi purpose rooms.
“The centre would be a cultural venue the arts and performing arts and provide a place to host community events.
“The vision is to bring the community together in one location and address the fact that many young people can’t access such facilities unless they travel to Coffs Harbour.”
Mr Hartsuyker said it was important that all three levels of government supported the multi purpose facility proposal.
“It is essential that council, the state and federal governments get behind this project. I am sure if all three levels of government work co-operatively on this we can deliver a facility which will be a tremendous asset to the northern beaches community.”
The Northern Beaches Multi Purpose Community Facility Committee has a strong representation of community and sporting groups. These include the Youth Club, Residents Association, Chamber of Commerce, Indian Temple committee, Lions and Rotary Clubs, the Woolgoolga High School P and C, the Woolgoolga Netball Association, soccer clubs and the RSL Club.
