as
Queensland Party Celebrates 1st Birthday

6 June 2011 – Queensland Day

Queensland Party candidate for Toowoomba North and former ALP MP Peter Pyke today heralded the first birthday of the breakaway Queensland Party, saying that the party’s consistent growth over the past 12 months demonstrates that Queenslanders have lost faith in both the ALP and the LNP, and that both of these tired old parties have lost their way and no longer meet the needs of ordinary people.

“The Queensland Party was born on Queensland Day one year ago and in that brief time it has been broadly welcomed right across Queensland, this shown by the growth of branches from Cairns to the Gold Coast and the party’s ability to endorse candidates already for nearly one third of Queensland seats with more coming,” says Peter Pyke.

The Queensland Party’s leader, serving State MP Aidan McLindon, a former LNP MP who quit the LNP in disgust last year says, “Our democracy thrives on the competition of ideas and decent policy and that is exactly what The Queensland Party brings to the table.”
In response to comments by Federal MP Bob Katter that he is forming a new ‘Katter’s Australia Party’ and ‘is open to talks with the Queensland Party’, Toowoomba North candidate for the Queensland Party Peter Pyke says he is an admirer of the outspoken Federal MP and he believes Katter has a key part to play in Australia’s political future, particularly regarding regional Australia.
Pyke says he and the Queensland Party have been in talks with Bob Katter for months and he is confident and hopeful that the new political dynamic Queensland and Australia are in desperate need of is beginning to coalesce.

“Good things come out of Queensland,” says Pyke.
Pyke says the new, emerging political dynamic is nothing like One Nation, but is moderate, sophisticated and centrist.

“The fact that we now see MPs and former-MPs who have broken away from the ALP, LNP and National Party working together to find a new way to inspire and lead our state and our nation is a very good sign that good people from all sides of politics can find common ground to work together in the interests of the people,” says Pyke.

Queensland Party Leader McLindon says The Queensland Party would be making further announcements regarding candidates and spokespeople in the coming weeks and would continue to liaise with other like-minded parties, organisations and independents to make sure Queenslanders can be properly represented.
