Nanango – David Thomson – Independent

Hi, Thankyou for your questionnaire,
David Thomson is married with three children aged 9, 19 and 21. I raised my daughter (two eldest) family values and the value of employment. I have worked in retail, owned small businesses, government jobs as Parole Officer, taught courses in Anger management, drug rehab and life skills. I spent 12 yrs in the RAAF as a technician and left as a trade instructor. Currently I am vice chair on two committees, committee member on another two, and delegate for another. I am also the Patron for the National Servicemen for the South Burnett. I have public speaking skills and addressed the Maidenwell ANZAC parade last year and Drive against Domestic Violence at Yarraman also last year.

I am apposed to CSG practices and advocate against them.
I am not completely up to date on dredging the GBR and so will not supply a response until I have had a chance to study it personally.

Our water needs to remain uncontaminated as it part of our long term future.

Climate change has many sides, naturally occurring cycles or man made interference. I believe there are cycles, we have little history recorded in the life of the earth and man certainly damages the earth. I promote safe environmental practices by all mankind and it starts at the family home and the sensible education of children.

We need to research alternative means of cheap useable renewable energy yes!

I am not appose to safe nuclear energy but offer a good alternative and I will accept it.

We need better public transport and rail should be looked at as it is flood proof, lowers trucks and cars on roads, employs people and reduces driver fatigue and road congestion in cities. Energy efficient trains need to be designed, High speed rail is an alternative to congested long road trips on roads that need considerable maintenance and repairs currently.

My internet seldom works and is so slow I live 2 klm from town. We need better telecommunication coverage and the Government should be prioritising this.

I am apposed to abortion, however i do recognise that in some instances when the life of a mother against a life of a foetus is in the balance hard decisions need to be made. As a man I believe i don’t have the right to make that final decision only discuss my concerns with my wife and stand by her decision, I promote that couples must communicate openly with their partner about their beliefs and intentions should this ever occur.

I am opposed to gay marriage.
The legal medical uses of marijuana should be debated and I do not support illegal drug use.

Campaign money should have full disclosure, Independents usually have to pay as I do out of their own pocket yet Major Parties evade where the money comes from and any deals done to get it. It should be a level playing field.

I believe prayers and politics should be kept apart however that is rarely the case. A prayer before the opening of parliament is respecting the foundation of the founding of the country and it original values. I also believe that when soldiers die a minute silence should be done as a sign of acknowledgment of the sacrifice that was made and the politicians were involved in.

I am not doing any preferences. The vote lives or dies with me.
The media coverage is always heavy for those who have the most dollars unfortunately.

Regards
David Thomson
