Secular Party of Australia’s Website hit by suspected DDoS Attack

On Friday 20 August, 2010 The Secular Party of Australia’s website, www.secular.org.au has appeared to come under a DDoS attack (Distributed Denial of Service).

On the eve of the 2010 election the Secular Party’s website became unavailable due to a high volume of traffic to the site. “There are only two possible explanations for this,” said Scott Sharrad, Senate candidate for South Australia. “Either the Secular Party has gained an immense amount of interest in this, the last day of the campaign or someone is threatened by us.”

If this is a coordinated attack, the Secular Party of Australia strongly believes this to be a most cowardly move by hidden opponents. It is preventing the people of Australia from accessing information about a political party to allow them to make up their own decision about who to vote for on Saturday.

As of release, the Secular Party of Australia’s website (www.secular.org.au) has been intermittently available in a distorted format due to the high volume of traffic.
