Country Alliance – Canberra fails to listen to the Valley

Canberra fails to listen to the Valley

The Country Alliance party says the introduction of a carbon tax will kill jobs in the Latrobe Valley, despite government ‘spin’ to the contrary.

The party, which contested the last two Victorian state election and is likely to gain registration for federal elections next month, says the carbon tax debate is proof that the major parties risk trashing their brands in the pursuit of deals with the Greens.

“Canberra has stopped listening to the people of the Latrobe Valley,” said party spokesman Andrew Jones.

“Both parties have done it before; this time it’s Labor’s turn, as they try to convince those operating our coal mines in the Valley that the tax will be good for them. It is an insult to the intelligence of Valley voters to suggest that the tax will create more job opportunities when the evidence points in the other direction” he said.

“Labor is trying to treat people like fools. It’s proof that Canberra is not listening to the Latrobe Valley. They did this with the cattle export ban up north, and are now trying to close our power industry down.”

“The fact is, Labor is about to implement a policy that will sell its own rank and file members in the Valley out.”

“Both sides of politics will do deals with the Greens to stay in power even if it means ignoring what the community wants. Something that Country Alliance will never do.
