Secular Party – Secular Party supports High Court Challenge

Media Release: Secular Party supports High Court Challenge

The Australian Constitution says that “The Commonwealth shall not make any law for establishing any religion”, yet under the National Schools Chaplaincy Program, ninety eight percent of chaplains are Christian. Is that establishing Chreistainity?

The constitution also says that “no religious test shall be required as a qualification for any office or public trust under the Commonwealth”. Yet Chaplains are required to have a religious qualification. Does the constitution not mean what it says?

The Christian lobby has been extremely successful in subverting secular principles over many decades. However the government cannot subvert the constitution.

“The success of the High Court challenge will be a small step in restoring secularism, but will be a major wake-up call to Australians”, says Secular Party president John Perkins. We need secularism now more than ever, he says.

The Secular Party has launched a special campaign to raise funds to support the Challenge. All donations to the Party in support of the challenge will be forwarded to the Challenge, dollar for dollar. Donations to the Secular Party are tax deductible.
