KNELL TO LATEST EUTHANASIA BILL

Family First SA leader Dennis Hood MLC has welcomed a joint statement by the
Australian Medical Association (SA Branch) and the Law Society of South Australia
opposing Labor Left MP Steph Key’s bill to legalise euthanasia in South Australia.
AMA SA President Peter Sharley says in the release:
This bill is really about doctors ending the lives of patients, in other words providing
euthanasia. Not only that, it has a serious lack of protection for patients
Whilst Law Society President Ralph Bonig states:
The Bill is deficient in that it does not have the ordinary safeguards that typical voluntary
euthanasia legislation should have.
“These are points Family First has been making for some time and the fact is, there
can never be adequate safeguards for legalising the killing of another person”, Mr
Hood said, “I welcome the sensible decision reached by the AMA and the Law Society
in today’s joint statement. It surely sounds the death knell for Labor Left’s latest
attempt to legalise euthanasia”
