“Mr Abbott said that newspapers were ‘vital for a vibrant intellectual culture and it would be serious for our public life if the quality of our newspapers were to decline. It’s pretty hard to keep cutting costs without cutting quality.’”

He continued: ‘So it’s good that we have someone who’ll be willing to crush intellectual culture by doing what needs to be done and cutting costs’.

FTA : ”Good on Gina for being prepared to invest in journalism at a difficult time,” Mr Abbott said. ”It’s not a bad thing – it’s a good thing.”

I read this as “I look forward to having the only other newspaper suite in the country also print my press releases without fact-checking them”.
