Potential leader of Australia confronted by change – is scared by it.

When I saw this on the news last night it was a real turning point for me. For the first time in me life I wanted to get out of Australia.

Tony is not just talking about the scary boat people anymore, he is referring to people from a specific cultural background who could very well be Australian born. It makes me feel almost violently ill to think that someone can stand up as a potential future leader of a country that claims to be a “melting pot” and spout this sort of narrow minded bullshit.

What makes me even sicker is to think that he has got bogan Australia on his side, and that many rich, educated Australians will not shift their Liberal vote lest their wealth be affected in any way. I would rather take a 5% pay cut than be considered culturally insensitive, let alone a fucking racist.

Stop the country, I want to get off.

No doubt the nationalists and protectionists would be glad to see you go, lest you encourage any more darkies or non-Christians into the country.

I’m pretty close to the biggest islamic school in the country, and though I see plenty of head-scarves, I can count on two hands the amount of times I’ve seen the fully-fledged burqa.

It’s another pithy distraction from issues we should all be getting pissed off about; religion in our politics, piss poor infrastructure everywhere, no accountability, no transparency of governmental process, and no prospect of getting any of that changed any time soon.
