Independent Don Bambrick (QLD) – Major parties platform

My Name is Don Bambrick, donforsenate@yahoo.com.au 0457 139 449

I am an independent Senate Candidate for Queensland.

I have limited resources so I won’t be coming to a town near you.

I live in the small Community of Byfield about 80km North East of Rockhampton.

I am worried about Australia and where it will be in 50 years and after. There are no policies from the big parties for a sustainable Australia, apart from a 5 second comment about Julia not supporting a big Australia.
World food production is falling, world population is rising. Brazil for example is clearing huge tracts of land for peas and grain production to make Ethanol. Their fuel is 85% Ethanol.
We are seeing significant purchases of good food production land in Australia by foriegn interests. In fact we are seeing huge buy outs of most of our Australian Companies.
We could become tennants in our own country. Where are the policies supporting Australians, especially the Rural sector that feds us all.
In 2006 John Howard Established a Prime ministerial Taskforce to reviewUranium mining, Processing and nuclear energy.
The Australia Institute research paper no 40 January 2007 states selected sites as Queensland, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Bundaberg, Sunshine Coast and Bribie Island.
NSW Port Stevens, Central Coast, Botany Bay, Port Kembla and Jervis bay/Sussex inlet.
Victoria is South Gippsland, Western port, Port Phillip and Portland.
SA Mt Gambier/Millicent, Port Adelaide, and Port Augusta/Port pirie.
Labor recently overturned the 2 mines policy and there are now 40 exploration permits for Uranium. For more detail please go to the Queensland Electrical Trades union website. their is a link to a movie “When The Dust Setles”
My position is clean Energy, Solar (Ausra, Solar towers, Hot Rocks ) wind and solar panels.
Never Ever Nuclear.

I support a tiered mining tax. low profits means little or no tax. very large profits would mean a larger tax but still a large profit. Evenly applied to all sectors, no sweet heart deals. Also a review of the subsidies mining companies get. Should be only as much as our farmers get. Use the savings to start a 50 year plan to electrify a national rail grid, and build the clean energy power stations in rural areas, to promote sustainable jobs and rural infrastructure. Something that has been sadly lacking from all the big parties.

I want Federal Legislation to ensure land owners affected or nearby to an mining exploration application are notified directly an application is lodged. As part of this I want an independent economic and ecological assessment of these lands before a permit is issued. Also government assistance to enable landowners to have significant input into the progress. We all know how well funded the mining industry is. Landowners simply do not have the resources in many cases to fight for their land.

Once mined the land is useless for quite sometime. We could reforest to absorb carbon where mining is suitable and reinvent rural forest industries. Currently their is no exit plan for mining towns when King coal and so on leaves.

I also want Federal Legislation to force referendums on the sale of Major Local. State and Federal Government Assets. No one believes Telstra is better now than when it was sold. Our rates and Taxes paid for these assets. They are our property. We have paid for the right to a say.

Because of population density most seats and voters are in the major coastal centres. So the bush is largely ignored.
Tony Abbott wants a green army. We have one already. Conservation Volunteers Australia, Greencorps, Land Care and Greening Australia to name a few. All have projects that simply need funding, not another group. Tackle Salinity and Weeds of National Significance.

I have looked at the major parties and the Greens websites. For my money the greens have the best policies for our future sustainability.

I see the major parties as spoiled brats arrogantly assuming they are our only choices. A significant drop in votes is all they will understand.
I see them as part of Australias problem. I want to be part of the solution.

I have listed my Email above. any one wanting my full Policy document may contact me there.

Thank you for your time.
