BALANCE OF POWER FOR INDEPENDENTS BAD FOR AUSTRALIA
The Nationals Senator for New South Wales John Williams says regional Australia will rue the day the Independents get the balance of power in Federal Parliament.

Senator Williams said Independents like Tony Windsor, the Member for New England, claim they stand up for regional Australia but their record suggests otherwise.

He said Mr. Windsor put jobs and industries at risk by attempting to introduce his Climate Protection Bill 2008 which would have cost hundreds of billions of dollars, but thankfully it lapsed through lack of support.

“He supported the Rudd Government’s Commonwealth Inscribed Stock Amendment Bill 2009 which allowed the Government to increase its borrowings from $75 billion to $200 billion and start its wasteful spending spree. The nation will never forget the home insulation and school halls debacles, and now the Federal Government is borrowing more than $110 million per day, seven days a week.

Mr. Windsor inexplicably voted with the Government on the youth allowance legislation which is a disaster for students in regional areas who will need to rely on independent youth allowance to receive a tertiary education. Thankfully the coalition improved this very bad legislation.

Look at the voting records of independents Tony Windsor and Bob Katter. Mr Windsor has missed 158 votes out of 345 over the last three years while Mr Katter has missed a massive 264 divisions out of 345. These two MP’s are absent from voting in the parliament more then any other of the 148 MP’s.

The Member for New England is on record as not ruling out supporting Labor in a hung Parliament. There is no doubt that Mr Windsor supports huge government debt and wasteful spending, and this is bad for the future of our nation”, Senator Williams said.
