Federal LNP Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott has welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement that the next Federal Election will be held on August 21.
Mr Scott said the election would give Australians a chance to choose which team they believed would be best to manage the national economy.
“In 2007, the Labor Party convinced Australia they were just as good at managing the economy as the Liberal-National team. But in just three years, Labor has turned a $20 billion surplus into a $57 billion deficit and turned $60 billion in net assets into $90 billion in net debt,” Mr Scott said.
“Labor promised big and achieved little. And the programs they did implement were either disastrous, like the roof insulation scheme, or they were a billion-dollar-blow out, like the BER school halls funding.
“The Labor Party may have changed its leader to convince Australians that it will manage the economy and the government differently. But remember, Julia Gillard was right behind former PM Kevin Rudd through every bad decision that their government made,” he said.
“The Liberal-National Coalition has a strong record of making the tough but fair decisions to return the national Budget from debt to surplus.
It is not easy, but we’ve done it before and we can do it again,” he said.
Mr Scott said the Liberal-National team was committed to returning decision-making power to people on the ground in the areas of health, education and the environment.
“A Liberal-National Government will establish community-run hospital boards, we will allow schools to decide how best to spend infrastructure funding, and we will deploy a Green Army that will work on the ground locally to protect our environment,” he said.
Mr Scott said he was looking forward to campaigning for his re-election.
“I have worked tirelessly to bring the unique issues of regional Queensland to the attention of Federal Parliament, and if re-elected I will continue to be a strong voice for the people of Maranoa,” he said.
“I also look forward to once again being part of a team which can put Australia back on track, and provide the communities of Maranoa with their fair share,” he said.
