Burleigh – Jeremy Fredericks – Family First Party

Hi BKoP team,

Thanks for the opportunity to respond to these questions.

Please take a moment to introduce yourself.

Introduction,
My name is Jeremy Fredericks, I am 30yrs old married with 2 young children.
Professionally and am a consulting structural and Geotechnical engineer and I am currently undertaking a master at Griffith uni part time.
I have contested the past two elections, the last federal in the seat of wright and the last state, in the Burleigh seat.

In brief, I run as candidate because I believe in the power of the family unit. That the family unit is the building block to strong society.
Without this key component I believe that society will be in kaos morally, ethically and financially.

What are your thoughts on coal seam gas? I believe in continued exploration, but also in the respecting people rights and protecting natural resources.

What are your thoughts on the dredging of the great barrier reef? I don’t think that this is a good idea. I find it hard to believe that the dredging process won’t have detrimental effects on the sensitive coral reef.

What are your thoughts on water? There needs to be a fixed price on water, as with all essential resources.

What are your thoughts on climate change? As a Geotechnical engineer I am unconvinced that man is the key contributor to climate change. I believe we don’t have enough evidence to distinguish between man made climate change and the natural cycles of the earth. However I do believe that we need to be good stewards of the earth and do our up most to protect it.

What are your thoughts on renewable energy? I do not believe that renewable energy is at a point to take over from coal. But as technology progresses this may change.

What are your thoughts on nuclear energy? I like the idea of nuclear energy, who doesn’t energy for free, but I wouldn’t like to be living next to one. The risks associated are just too high at the moment.

What are your thoughts on public transport? Public transport should be cheap, reliable and extensive. The problem with our current system is that it is infrequent and for most of the population it doesn’t take you close enough to your home to fore go another form of transport. For these reasons most people would rather drive themselves and save the hassles. However It is the probably the best way to ease traffic congestion.

What are your thoughts on public education? Essential to further our society.

What are your thoughts on the National Broadband Network? I believe it is probably a over done. As someone put it, We don’t need a Ferrari a Commodore will do.

What are your thoughts on High-Speed Rail? Essential.

What are your thoughts on abortion? I believe in the right to life and that no one has the right to take life. I am disgusted that Victoria has allowed late term abortion. From the statistics I have read, out of the 364 late term abortions in 2010, 54 babies survived and were left to die on the operating table. THIS IS NOT OK.

Do you support or oppose gay marriage? No

Do you support or oppose the legalisation of voluntary euthanasia? No, As above

Do you support or oppose the legalisation of marijuana? No,

What are your thoughts on campaign finance disclosure? Yes

Do you support or oppose the reading of prayers to start each Parliamentary day, and why? No, I believe that traditions such as the reading of the prayer and the acknowledgment of God in the constitution have played a part in building our country. I believe that if it has worked why change it?

On your particular electoral ticket, where are your preferences going, and why? I don’t think it has been set yet but it will be the candidate who is strongest on building the family

Are there any local issues you are trying to highlight with your campaign? family safety

What do you think about the media’s coverage of the election so far? Poor, the big players get coverage neglecting the minor parties.

Thanks for the opportunity to respond.

    kaos! energy for free!

“Do you support or oppose …? No”
Is this the equivalent of “no comment”? I would assume, given the party background, that you oppose gay marriage. If this is the case, why do you give the same “no” response to that question as you do to the question regarding prayer in parliament, of which you are evidently in favour?
