“Answers from Mark Smith Independent Senate Candidate for Queensland.

What are your thoughts on asylum seekers?

ms

The Thai Burma border has a refugee camp of 160,000.

In a two for one deal as suggested by
Tony Zegenhagen D.L.P, one illegal boat person returned to the camp for two genuine refugees.

And my suggestion may be that our Commonwealth Cousins studying Flying in Australia could get valuable hours flying experience in used surplus RAAF Hercules aircraft transporting the illegal boat arrivals back to were they came from.

What are your thoughts on public transport?

ms

Not a federal issue, but currently public transport is generally to expensive, old technology, under-used, over-abused and a waste, generally of tax payer’s money, perpetuating old technology acquisitions of diesel buses and antiquated rail networks.

High speed solutions are available, public transportation demonstrates the continued reliance on comfortable business relationships with old technology sectors.

What are your thoughts on renewable energy?

ms

Wind and solar are an increasing valuable edge technology, nuclear, although essentially dangerous, just like life itself can deliver base load power.

This could come from nuclear facilities buried deep in caverns of stable rock and earth/lake structures reasonably close to base load requirement centers.

Do you support or oppose the introduction of the R18+ rating
classification for video games?

ms

The same rating scheme as the Movies seems entirely reasonable.

Do you support or oppose the proposed internet filter?

ms

Big brother is going to slow us down and micro manage our existence, evidence abounds already, what would be any different with the Internet, the responsibility of parents surely is the highest priority.

Do you support or oppose gay marriage?

ms

Not being a practicing participant, I don’t really feel qualified to answer.

Long terms relationships seem to belong to a Man and Women “version”, stability and a life cross section of experience weigh heavily on a balanced outcome for children.

What are your thoughts on abortion?

ms

Right to life for all civilized people except were lives are threatened for medical reasons; more personal accountability and responsibility would be good.

Do you support or oppose the legalisation of voluntary euthanasia?

ms

Voluntary V Compulsory?

What are your thoughts on stem cells research?

ms

Breeding sounds scary. Like most other people I need more information, it is required generally.

What are your thoughts on education?

ms

A balance in teacher genders for Primary and Secondary Schools lets try to make the education profession more appealing to males.

What are your thoughts on campaign finance disclosure?

ms

Is their a valid reason for disclosures, is their balance between big parties and small candidates?

Is there equal treatment?

More research and an understanding of what is happening in reality is required.

Remove the scams.

What are your thoughts on climate change?

ms

Is it getting hotter or colder?

Or is it an excuse for more micro management regulation from Government’s World Wide, people are concerned and want the carbon issue addressed, for that reason alone action should be taken to move to more sustainable practice for Power Generation.

New Technology will be driven from people power purchase decisions, as seen from the major European/Japan/Asia/US Car Manufacturers deserting diesel/petrol over the next ten years for Electric/Hybrid/Full Electric/ Hydrogen and my favorite for Australia, LNG, currently selling at 5 cents a litre to the Chinese the last report I have heard, every vehicle in Australia could run on it quite well.

For a Federal Government to drive up LPG and LNG prices is quite counter productive to the general economy especially when you consider the huge volumes of natural gas abounding in Australia and being carted off to other places at prices we need to be paying at the distribution point.

Time to regulate for equal opportunity fuel distribution at every fuel outlet in Australia.

What are your thoughts on water?

ms

Water in the supermarket is already more expensive than petrol, no tax on house hold collected tank water, no de-salination factories, they will only drive water prices up to levels the average family will struggle with, more self sufficiency from various water recycling, private catchment technologies..

Do you support or oppose standing order 50?

ms, on prayer mat facing Canberra!!!

It does sound nice in a spiritual sort of way before all the noise and carry on commences, humans are a spiritual bunch of bananas and this has been evident through the mists of time, it does not offend me in any way and should be taken for it’s true value by everybody, a moment for the heart, denied at every turn for the rest of the day.

Are there any local issues you are trying to highlight with your campaign?

ms,

funny you should ask.

Values are held dear by Australians, include a long tradition of Horse Racing, Dog Racing, Trot Racing, Two Beetles up a wall Racing, Smoking, Drinking, Fighting, Two Up Gambling and other such pursuits that probably don’t need elaboration here and now, needless to say, I would like to reckon my observations are fair dinkum.

I am standing as an Independent, not a Liberal, a Labor, a Green or smiling Family Me Firster, nor a wowser, or a fundamentalist anything, but I do believe in the separation of Church and State.

My current concern is the horrible misery inflicted on the poor/recently rich from Poker Machines.

Let’s together stop the revenue reliance of State Governments from gambling outlets.

It is immoral for State Governments to be acting in this fashion and the Federal Senate composed of like minded Senators should bring this reality to bare on those institutions that were set up originally to serve and protect the general public, unfortunately no longer.

You and I consistently witness the massive loss of expendable income at a local retail level, evidenced for example, by cheap meals from the Hall’s of Human Misery masquerading as Clubs.

When counting the loss of money to the Poker Machine after the cheap meal from the HOHM, one could easily partake financially in a nice evening out at your local wood fired Pizza/Seafood/etc Restaurant, featuring pleasant conversation with friends, quality hand crafted meals, fresh hand picked produce and a friendly local family atmosphere.

This is opposed to the HOHM featuring a false bravado welcome, signing in ceremony, with some gormandizing cheap fattening dog food, getting completely drunk and being duck shoved by security guards at every flashing jangling corner until the weary sad eyed staff bid you a good riddance farewell along with your empty pockets.

Get the D9, lower the blade and clear the Horrible Halls.

Open up the spaces, invite in local artisans, local performers, the interesting, the talented, all of whom exist in your local neighborhood.

I say, bring back a balance, bring back reality, bring back local equity, bring back support for each other, bring back your health, stop drinking, stop smoking, stop gambling, stop frivolous spending, stop thinking your ten foot tall and bullet proof, open your mind to the only life you have, it’s here, it’s great, it’s real and it’s now.

Though group voting tickets have not been submitted yet, do you have an
idea on where your preferences will be going?

N/A

Thank you

Mark Smith

Senate Candidate for Queensland

Please vote 1 Mark Smith below the line and spend 90 seconds numbering all the boxes below the line on your senate Ballot Paper.

The balance of power could easily end up in the hands of an independent Candidate so your vote is empowering.

The incumbent power brokers have concocted a ballot paper for the Senate that act’s with the natural instinct of a human being to take the easy route and just number a single box, let them know you don’t like there trivial enterprise, your vote is vital, Vote 1 Mark Smith and number all the other boxes below the line.”
