Greens are economic vandals

The Liberal Democrats (LDP) regard Bob Brown’s claim to being a fiscal conservative as a joke in bad taste.
LDP Senate candidate for Queensland, Mr Jim Fryar said today that of all political parties in Australia, the Greens have the worst and most destructive economic policies.
“The Greens have no sense of economic reality,” he said. “At the start of the mining tax debate Brown stated, “The Greens propose the creation of a 50% resource rent tax on mining company profits, to be collected into a National Resources Fund.”
This is notably worse than Rudd was planning.
He attempted to justify this by claiming that the value of mineral production in 2006–07 was $100 billion and “only $7 billion of this reached government coffers.”
“He thinks that every dollar of turnover is profit and there are no costs,” Mr Fryar said. “In reality there is a heavy cost in exploring, developing and extracting these minerals. Not only that, but with the relatively high incomes of everyone involved, which are taxed up to the top marginal rate, plus the taxes paid by suppliers and contractors, it is clear the industry is a cash cow for the government.”
Brown is also insisting on a massive tax on carbon emissions, which will raise costs of all business, all production, and all energy use, household and industrial, and lift the cost of living for all Australians through the roof. This will be wasted on subsidising unproven technology and grandiose plans such as high speed rail.
“The Greens are,” he said, “the sort of tax obsessives Tom Paine referred to with the words, “we still find the greedy hand of government thrusting itself into every corner and crevice of industry, and grasping the spoil of the multitude. Invention is continually exercised, to furnish new pretenses for revenues and taxation. It watches prosperity as its prey and permits none to escape without tribute.”
