Initiative/policy for the Aged

I pledge to work closely with aged groups to become their voice in parliament.
There is a projected suggestion that our community will experience a skills shortage but training takes time and there is a trained and experienced workforce going untapped.
Specifically I will endeavour to promulgate a special employment award for the aged pensioners that will allow those who wish and those who are able, to return to the workforce.
A suggested maximum of 20 hours working week would apply.
In this scheme, those who work less than 10 hours per week would not lose any benefits they would normally be entitled to. Those who work up to the maximum 20 hours will have their age benefit reduced proportionately
Income from employment should also be tax free.
Remuneration would reflect the tax free status to provide an employer incentive.
I also plan to develop an “adopt a senior program”. This is a reverse mentoring social network where youth can teach and explain the skills of the electronic age to seniors who have had no opportunity to experience an often mystifying technology. We can have our seniors also join in a free computer program, where Governments could supply nursing homes and aged care facilities with computers and related equipment so that they can enrich their lives with new learning experiences. I believe activities like this will contribute to their health and wellbeing which could be reflected in reduced health care demands and result in savings to the community.
Our seniors have earned that small privilege and deserve to be able to enjoy the fruits of modern technology.
Because I am also an aged pensioner the “grey” community can be assured that my election to Parliament will be in their best interest and that issues that affect their lives will get a high priority. If elected I will (1) seek to review retirement village practices to protect long term clients who may be disadvantaged by unfair resale valuations, (2)investigate if government can provide assistance to those who need home upgrades that will allow them to safely stay in their own homes, (3) review remuneration for aged care workers who generally earn less than health care workers in other sectors
