Independent Peter Pyke (QLD) – BLIGH GONE BY XMAS PETER PYKE SENATE CANDIDATE SAYS

PETER PYKE SENATE CANDIDATE FOR QUEENSLAND
Press Release: 19 August 2010
BLIGH GONE BY XMAS PETER PYKE SENATE CANDIDATE SAYS

Backed by Bob Katter for the Senate in Queensland, former-state MP Peter Pyke says a vote for him in the Senate is a vote to get rid of Anna Bligh.

“Many Queenslanders are disillusioned about both parties and thinking of placing a protest vote with the Greens,” says Pyke.

“In Queensland the Greens are like a Labor faction which just means more of the same,” Pyke says, “I’m asking Queenslanders to vote in the Senate to get rid of Anna Bligh.”

Peter Pyke is a former Labor MP who is being backed by a former-National Party MP, an unusual alliance.

Had the election not been called early, it is not inconceivable that Bob Katter and Peter Pyke would have appeared on the same Senate ticket, standing for the new Republican Democrats centre party which was launched nationally on 22 June 2010, too late to be registered ahead of the federal election. Peter Pyke is the CEO of the new party.

The Republican Democrats party says it intends to give Australia another centre party like the Democrats (but better!) as an alternative to the major parties, without the risky single issue policies of the Greens.

On Friday Mr Katter and Peter Pyke shared a common platform to discuss water issues and Bob Katter told Fairfax Radio Network that Peter Pyke has his support because he shares his own big-picture, nation-building vision and the same belief that the future of Australia lies in greater support for agriculture and the regions.

The outcome of this Federal Election is likely to be close in the House of Representatives but could result in the Greens holding the balance of power in our Senate.

Both Katter and Pyke are asking Queenslanders to give Pyke their support rather than hand the Greens the balance of power.

“If I am elected to the Senate, I’ll register the Republican Democrats in Queensland and we will immediately begin a campaign to unseat the Bligh Government,” Pyke says. “I have a plan to get rid of them before Xmas.”

Pyke says without tipping his hand the alliance between a former-Labor MP and a former-National MP should show Queenslanders what is possible in the future with the new party.

There are 60 choices of candidates or parties in the ‘below the line’ category on the Senate ballot paper, so to vote for Peter Pyke, voters need to put a number one in the box next to his name, then a number two against their second preference and so on, until all 60 boxes have been correctly numbered.

“When you go to vote for the Senate this election, I’m asking you to think about what the Labor machine did to Kevin Rudd. Then think about Anna Bligh, Andrew Fraser, Paul Lucas and Stephen Robinson. Then remember the alliance between the Greens and Labor. Then, I’m asking you to make your vote accordingly,” says Pyke.

“A vote for Peter Pyke in the Senate is a vote to get rid of Anna Bligh and a vote to keep our state-owned assets, that’s a promise.”
