The results of a Newspoll survey on the Victorian government’s proposed ban on bongs, show widespread skepticism about the move.
The government’s stated objective in introducing legislation to ban bongs was to try and stop young people from smoking marihuana. The poll, commissioned by the Eros Association and run last weekend showed that a large majority of Victorians (72%) thought the legislation would not stop young people from smoking marihuana. A minority of 23% thought it would.
Eros Association CEO and Sex Party President, Fiona Patten, said that the proposed legislation was also racist, in that it banned bongs used by young Caucasions and water pipes traditionally used by Chinese but exempted hookahs used by those of middle eastern descent.
“If Andrew Bolt’s statements about race are illegal then this Bill surely is as well”, she said. “How can you send Chinese and Caucasian Australians to jail for selling and displaying bongs and then exempt Lebanese and Egyptian Australians from selling and displaying their version of a bong?”
She called on Andrew Bolt to comment on the issue.
Of those that did not believe the legislation would have any effect, the 18-34 age group were most vocal with 80% agreeing but even in the over 50 age group, a large percentage (64%) also agreed that banning bongs would do nothing to bring down marihuana usage.
Ms Patten said that bongs, hookahs and traditional water pipes should all be sold from age-restricted premises. She said that if the legislation was passed, she would survey Victorians about marihuana usage in the months prior to the next State election. “I think we will find that usage rates will probably have escalated”, she said. “This will show that, against public opinion, the government wasted taxpayer’s money just to show they were ‘tough on drugs’. She asked the Premier if he would now ban cigarette papers in the state of Victoria because these were by far the most popular way of smoking marihuana. “A far more effective Bill would be to restrict the sale of all smoking utensils, pipes, cigarettes and cigarette papers to adults only venues such as tobacconists, pubs and adult shops.
She said that banning bongs would force tens of thousands of young Victorians to smoke cannabis through garden hoses and plastic orange juice bottles with all the deleterious health aspects that plastic vapors in the lungs could bring.
“When in government, the ALP voted against this Bill when it was initially brought on by the DLP. They cited the deleterious effects of smoking substances through plastic as opposed to glass or ceramic or wood. The Greens appear unlikely to move to put it to a Committee. The Sex Party will fight this decision on its own.”

Kenyan troops suspected of shoplifting from stores damaged by terror attack

First the troops were accused of looting during a huge fire in August at Nairobi’s main airport.

Employees of a book shop on the mall’s second floor returned to find registers yanked open and cash gone. The store’s laptops were also stolen. All the shop’s books remained in place, said owner Paku Tsavani.
Perhaps reluctant to blame Kenyan security forces, Tsavani said he doesn’t know who took his goods.
“Obviously the terrorists wouldn’t steal those things, so we just don’t know,” Tsavani said.
Sandeep Vidyarthi went into the mall Sunday to help a relative retrieve equipment from his dental practice. Inside he said he passed shop after shop that had been looted, including the Rado store that sells high-end Swiss watches.
As he was leaving the mall, Vidyarthi passed a jewelry shop near the front entrance. The owner, he said, was presenting security officials with a long list of missing precious stones and high-end necklaces.
“The jeweler had written down this very long list,” he said.
It is ironic, said the management team of one Westgate business, that store owners must now make reports of stolen goods to the same security forces suspected of doing the thieving.
Interior Minister Joseph Ole Lenku confirmed the reports of theft Sunday in a news conference. The majority of the responders to the terrorist attack came from Kenya’s military. A military spokesman did not answer repeated calls for comment.
“Those responsible for looting will be prosecuted,” Lenku said.
The mall attack also saw good Samaritans. Paresh Shah, a volunteer who helped evacuate the injured and recover the dead during the first day, said he carried out the body of Aleem Jamal.
Shah frowned at the memory and said he saw a Kenyan soldier take Jamal’s cigarettes while in the ambulance.
“I could never do that, take a dead man’s cigarettes,” Shah said.
Jamal’s family retrieved the body at the morgue, where his wife, Taz Jamal, said her husband’s wallet was missing.
A team of terrorists entered Westgate Mall shortly after noon on a busy Saturday, firing guns and throwing grenades. The attackers — the Somali extremist group al-Shabab claimed responsibility — held off Kenya’s military and controlled at least parts of the mall for four days.
The attack killed at least 67 people. The mall now has a gaping three-story hole in it from the siege.
Almost a week after the attack ended, more than three dozen people remain unaccounted for, the head of the Kenyan Red Cross said Monday.
The government contends there are no remaining missing people.
“The only way to verify this is when the government declares the Westgate Mall 100 percent cleared. Then we can resolve it,” Red Cross head Abbas Gullet said.
A morgue worker told AP on Monday that six body parts have been found in the rubble. The worker, who insisted on anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about information not yet released, said it was not clear if the parts came from one or multiple bodies.
Five terrorists are believed to be under the rubble but no dead hostages, Interior Minister Lenku said Sunday. Government officials have said 10 to 15 terrorists attacked the mall. Lenku said some attackers might have escaped.
“We do not rule out the possibility that when we were evacuating people in the first stages of the operation, it is possible some could have slipped out,” he said.
FBI agents, along with investigators from Britain, Canada and Germany, are participating in the investigation into the attack and are aiding Kenyan forensic experts. Results are not expected until later this week at the earliest.
Kenyan authorities have used anti-terrorism laws to detain a total of 12 people in connection with the attack, including one on Sunday. Three have been set free, including a British man with a bruised face who was reportedly arrested last week as he tried to board a flight from Nairobi to Turkey while acting suspiciously, the British Foreign Office confirmed Monday.
Ndung’u Githinji, chairman of parliament’s foreign relations committee, said officials will “rethink” Kenya’s hospitality in supporting refugee camps, a reference to Dadaab, a refugee camp near Somalia filled with more than 400,000 Somalis. Security officials say some elements in the camp support and facilitate terror attacks.

Moncler défile aujourd’hui sur les podiums des fashion week, à Milan, à Paris ou à New York. Ses doudounes en plume d’oie vendues, entre 600 et plus de 1.000 euros, sont devenues de vrais accessoires de mode. En moins de 10 ans, les ventes ont décuplé. Moncler réalisait 50 millions d’euros de chiffre d’affaires en 2003 et près de 500 millions aujourd’hui.
Les doudounes Moncler à l’assaut de l’Himalaya
La marque revient de loin. Elle est née près de Grenoble, il y a plus de 60 ans. A Monestier de Clermont très exactement, d’où elle tire son diminutif. A l’origine, elle fabriquait des sacs de couchages pour les alpinistes.
Elle a ensuite équipé les sportifs français des Jeux Olympiques de 1968. Légère, résistante et très confortable, les doudounes Moncler sont parties à l’assaut des plus grands sommets du Népal.
Au bord de la faillite dans les années 90, elle est finalement reprise par Remo Ruffini, un Italien qui la propulse dans le monde du luxe. Il multiplie les ouvertures de magasins et étend la gamme.
Aujourd’hui Moncler vend aussi des chaussures, des sacs et vient même de lancer à Paris sa première collection de lunettes. A son capital, plusieurs fonds d’investissements et notamment Carlyle ou le français Eurazeo.

Der er tre gode grunde til at rejse med “Pride of Africa”: Togturen i overdådig luksus. Den spændende kolonitidshistorie i de tre lande, toget kører gennem. Og Afrika.

De uniformerede tjenere, der skænker vin op. De slanke teaktræs-søjler, der løber i to rækker ned gennem vognen. De kvindelige gæster klædt i smukke farver og herrerne i noble jakkesæt. Den stilfærdige konversation, mens et aftenmørkt Afrika glider forbi uden for togvinduerne.

Men dette overdådige luksustog, der tilsyneladende stammer fra den britisk-afrikanske kolonitids gyldne årtier, er den sydafrikanske forretningsmand og togentusiast Rohan Voss’ drøm om, hvordan det kunne have været.
Dengang havde især de kongelige, men også meget rige familier, deres private, ekstravagant indrettede vogne, der blev koblet på togstammerne, så man ikke skulle sidde sammen med almindelige passagerer, og Voss satte sig i midten af 1980erne for at skabe et helt tog kun bestående af sådanne luksusvogne.
En slags afrikansk version af den legendariske Orient-ekspressen mellem Paris og Istanbul.
»Der kommer det!«
Ganske langsomt glider det smukke, mørkegrønne »Pride of Africa« ind på stationen. Knapt er det standset, før en gruppe dragere med Rovos Rail-logo på de grønne kedeldragter strømmer ud fra stationsbygningen og begynder at bære bagage om bord.
De bliver efterfulgt af rækken af hosts og hostesses, der skal sikre sig, at alt er i orden, inden vi passagerer står på.
»Deres suite er denne vej, Mr. Johansen,« siger Madelein og viser mig ned ad en lang toggang med kupéer på venstre side.
Der er navneskilte ved alle dørene, og jeg når forbi »Mrs. Margaret Thacker«, »Mr. Martin Jones & Mrs. Donna Head« samt »Mr. Riaan Viljoen & Mrs. Stephanie Coertse«, inden jeg når til Koenigsberg-suiten, hvor mit navn står.
Suiten er i mellemstørrelse i Rovos Rail-terminologi, men den er nu pænt stor, synes jeg. Her er både en stor dobbeltseng, et bord med to lænestole ved udkigsvinduer og diverse skabe. Væggene er beklædt med teaktræ, der gløder i et varmt, gyldent skær.
Rohan Voss’ største udfordringer
En af Rohan Voss’ største udfordringer var at overbevise i første omgang Sydafrikas og siden flere nabolandes myndigheder om, at det var en god idé, at hans privatejede tog skulle have adgang til deres statslige togspor.
Dernæst skulle gamle togvogne fra 1910erne til 1940erne opstøves, opkøbes, nænsomt renoveres og indrettes, samtidig med at gamle lokomotiver skulle vækkes af dvalen og atter gøres til stærke trækdyr. Og endelig skulle en masse mennesker – fra pensionerede togarbejdere over interiørdesignere til kokke og administrationspersonale – overtales til at tro på, at hans vision kunne føres ud i livet og samle det store togpuslespil. Helst uden at han gik konkurs undervejs.
Men alt det er historie nu. Det første tog kørte af sted i 1989 ad netop den rute, Rejseliv skal med på – fra Victoria Falls i Zimbabwe til Pretoria i Sydafrika – med fire betalende passagerer, Voss-familien og deres nærmeste venner om bord.
I dag er Rovos Rail en stor spiller inden for ekstraordinære luksusrejser og råder over adskillige togsæt samt sin egen togstation i den sydafrikanske hovedstad.
Selskabet arrangerer en række forskellige ture – spændende fra denne blot to et halv døgn lange rejse, over længere ture med eksempelvis safari eller golf på programmet til den helt store, månedlange eventyrrejse fra Cape Town i Sydafrika til Cairo i Egypten. Sidstnævnte rute er ikke valgt tilfældigt. Den er – ud over at være en unik rejseoplevelse – en hyldest til den mand, der er forudsætningen for, at Rovos Rail overhovedet har skinner at køre på igennem det sydlige Afrika.
De mægtige vandfald
Den lille togstation, som »Pride of Africa« holder på nu, ligger blot 25-30 meter fra det klassiske kolonitidshotel Victoria Falls Hotel, der blev bygget i 1904 – i første omgang i en noget mindre udgave som indkvarteringssted for de folk, der stod for byggeriet af en af datidens store ingeniørbedrifter: Victoria Falls Bridge.
De mægtige vandfald, hvor Zambezi-floden snævrer ind og styrter flere end 100 meter ned i brølende kaskader (læs mere på side 30-31) blev »opdaget« af den skotske opdagelsesrejsende David Livingstone (Ja, ham …) i 1855 og opnåede i årene frem en nærmest mytologisk status og tiltrak mange mennesker.
Faldene, og ikke mindst den dybe kløft, som vandet brager ned i, udgjorde imidlertid omkring forrige århundredeskifte et stort problem for den magtfulde sydafrikanske politiker og forretningsmand Cecil Rhodes. Han havde længe arbejdet på at skabe en jernbaneforbindelse gennem det afrikanske kontinent – fra Cape Town i syd til Cairo i nord – men hvordan skulle man komme over kløften ved Victoria Falls og videre nordpå?
Rhodes var ikke drevet af en romantisk drøm om, at dronningens undersåtter på denne måde skulle betvinge den vilde natur; han havde brug for jernbanen til at fragte især kul, guld og diamanter fra hans rige miner både syd og nord for Zambezi op til Nordafrika og derfra videre til England.
Dette nordgående spor skulle udgøre rygraden i et afrikansk jernbanenet, hvor andre øst- og vestgående spor siden skulle sluttes til, så naturressourcer fra hele Afrika kunne fragtes af sted med jernbanen.
Rhodes udskrev en ingeniørkonkurrence, men nåede aldrig selv at se det færdige resultat. Han døde i 1902, og først tre år senere lykkedes det engelske ingeniører at bygge en bro over dybet, så jernbanen kunne videreføres.
Første tog over broen
I 1905 kunne det første tog køre over broen, der stadig anvendes og i dag udgør grænsen mellem Zimbabwe og Zambia. Og, nå ja, så bruges den også flittigt af action-freaks, der under højlydte skrig bungee-jumper ned mod den brusende Zambezi-flod.
Da turisterne for alvor strømmede til efter broens åbning, blev Victoria Falls Hotel de næste år udvidet til det store, eksklusive hotel, det er i dag, med en prægtig hovedbygning, sidefløje, restauranter, poolområde og kun ti minutters gang til indgangen til det beskyttede naturområde omkring Victoria Falls.
Stemningen på hotellet er helt unik, og det er magisk at stå ude på terrassen og kigge ned mod broen og se vandskyerne fra faldene. Det kan kun anbefales at tage et par overnatninger her inden togturen.
Madelein banker forsigtigt på døren og giver mig en kort introduktion til suiten.
»Her er bad og toilet, her kan De lave te eller kaffe, sådan indstiller De aircondition-anlægget, ring på denne klokke, hvis De ønsker at få fyldt noget mere i køleskabet, og hvis De ellers ønsker noget, så er jeg lige her henne ved siden af.«
Lidt overvældet af de flotte omgivelser sætter jeg mig ned og kigger ud på den travle perron. Efter nogle minutter sætter toget sig i bevægelse, og dragerne vinker farvel til os.
Et øjeblik senere ligger byens sidste klynge af primitive et-rums-huse i bølgeblik bag os, og vi er i et landskab, som jeg de næste mange timer forsvinder helt ind i. Det er første gang, jeg er syd for Sahara, og jeg labber grådigt udsigten i mig, mens toget gung-gada-dunger af sted i et adstadigt tempo.
Tørt-strittende gul bush, udtørrede flodlejer, små gazeller, der haster væk, når toget kommer for tæt på, ranke træer med klare, grønne kroner (de må vokse lige over en underjordisk kilde), mandshøje termitboer – og baobabtræer …
Jeg er vild med baobabtræerne, der står med den karakteristiske svulmende stamme som ensomme kæmper i den lave bush-bevoksning. Frodigt buttet som de mørke stewardesser om bord på det South African Airways-fly, der for et par dage siden bragte mig fra O.R.Tambo International Airport i Johannesburg i Sydafrika til den nærmest intermistiske Victoria Falls Airport i Zimbabwe.
Landskabet er ikke så overvældende som området omkring Victoria Falls, og eftersom jeg er her i den sydafrikanske vinter, er der heller ikke så frodigt, som når man rejser i højsæsonen, Jeg ser heller ikke hverken løver eller elefanter som på en safari. Men det betyder ikke noget. Jeg er i Afrika.
Kkoster en mindre formue at rejse med luksustoget
For Rovos Rail er nøgleordet »eksklusivt«. Det koster en mindre formue at rejse med luksustoget, og man skal have noget for pengene.
Og det synes jeg absolut, at jeg gør i de kommende dage. Ikke kun fordi omgivelserne er luksuriøse – det er der så mange steder, de er (beklager, hvis det lyder snobbet; det er ikke ment sådan) – heller ikke fordi forplejningen er i særklasse med lækker morgenmad, fire udsøgte retter med ledsagende sydafrikanske vine til både frokost og middag, high tea om eftermiddagen samt drinks og snacks, når man ønsker det, men mest af alt, fordi selskabet gør sit bedste for, at man som passagerer bliver set og hørt.
Der er kun 30-40 gæster om bord – 32 på Rejselivs tur – så stemningen er intim, og man lærer ret hurtigt andre passagerer at kende. Et forhold, der forstærkes af, at man ikke kan gemme sig i sit arbejde. For både at opretholde følelsen af at befinde sig i gamle dage og »presse« passagererne til at få koblet af, må man ikke bruge hverken mobiltelefon, iPad eller computer på fællesområderne, lige som der ikke er tv om bord. Man kan derimod låne brætspil, spillekort og forskellige magasiner og bøger.
Jeg falder således i snak med sydafrikanske Magaret Thacker (fra »min« vogn«) og hendes søn, Howard Thacker, der inviterer mig til at spise middag med dem på rejsens anden aften. Hun fylder 80 og han 50 i år, og rejsen var en fødselsdagsgave til dem begge.
Nu sidder hun og fortæller om, hvordan det var at komme til Sydafrika i 1970erne, hvortil familien emigrerede fra »Labour-England«, og han, som arbejder for den sydafrikanske våbenindustri, om, hvordan det er at være en midaldrende, hvid mand i et moderne Sydafrika, hvor den slags er på vej mod bunden af fødekæden – for nu at bruge hans ord.
»Der er jo indført en kvoteordning til alle offentlige stillinger,« siger han: »Først skal man vælge en sort kvinde, så en sort mand, dernæst en farvet kvinde (det vil sige af »blandet« afstamning, red.), så en farvet mand. Så kommer en hvid kvinde. Og til sidst en hvid mand.«
Han gør sit bedste for ikke at lyde bitter, men jeg kan godt høre, at ikke synes, at situationen er hverken rimelig eller retfærdig.
Tjah. Rimelighed og retfærdighed har aldrig været det fundament, det sydlige Afrika hvilede på.
Tag nu os. Vi sidder her i vores stiveste puds – som dress coden om bord forskriver ved aftensmåltidet, om dagen kan man nøjes med at være »casual smart« – over forret, hovedret, ost og dessert, mens størstedelen af de mennesker, der bor i de beskedne huse, der ligger spredt langs sporet, givet må nøjes med et endog meget beskedent måltid.
Ikke fordi jeg mener, at man af princip skal have moralske kvababbelser ved at unde sig selv en luksusferie i en område, hvor andre er fattige, men fordi det er umuligt at overse, hvordan verdens goder er ulige fordelt, når man rejser gennem Afrika på denne måde.
Sådan havde jeg det også i eftermiddag, hvor togmanager Gareth kom fordi den åbne dør til min kupé .
»Lad være med at give dem noget,« havde han sagt.
Vi var kommet fra Zimbabwe og ind i Botswana ved Plumtree-grænsestationen tidligt i morges, havde til formiddag været på en udflugt til en stor kvægfarm, hvor vi hørte om ejerens families flere end 100 år på farmen, havde kørt ud i Rovos Rails egne landcruisers og set både giraffer og antiloper, og havde fået juice, te og kager ude ved et vildt-drikkehul på farmens område, og nu holdt toget i en lille flække af en landsby.
Ramt af hvid-mands-dårlig-samvittighed
»Mister, Mister, Mister, Mister, Mister!« lød det kakafonisk fra en flok lokale børn, der var suset hen til toget og nu løb ivrige rundt mellem hinanden uden for vores vinduer i håbet om, at vi kastede nogle penge ud til dem.
Jeg var straks blevet ramt af hvid-mands-dårlig-samvittighed, men det var en kortsigtet løsning bare at give dem penge, fortalte Gareth.
»Vi arbejder sammen med en del af de landsbyer, der ligger langs ruten, og giver dem fødevarer som ris, majs og olie, når vi kommer forbi, og vi støtter også skolerne. Det er vigtigt, at de ikke lærer, at den nemmeste vej til penge er at tigge.«
Jeg kiggede nærmere på børnene, der da heller ikke så hverken sultende eller forhutlede ud. Botswana er, i modsætning til Zimbabwe, et af de lande i det sydlige Afrika, der klarer sig bedst. Landet består mestendels af Kalahari-ørkenen og er stort set kun befolket i de byer, der ligger langs jernbanesporet, men i kraft af meget rige guldforekomster overgås landets økonomi kun af Sydafrikas.
Inde fra nabokupéen, der var beboet af et tysk-australsk kærestepar, blev der kastet et par pakker tyggegummi ud af vinduet, som børnene straks kastede sig over.
Da toget atter satte sig i bevægelse, fulgte børnene vinkende og grinende med langs sporet, indtil der var så meget fart på, at de ikke længere kunne følge med.
Mens »Pride of Africa« de næste timer bevægende sig sydpå gennem det tilsyneladende uendelige bush-område, kun afbrudt af en farm hér og en fabriksbygning dér, sad jeg i min kupé og læste om det sydlige Afrikas fantastisk spændende historie med krige mellem de hollandske settleres efterkommer, boerne, og englænderne, som prøvet at sætte sig på hele området og dets rigdomme. Om berømtheder som Rhodes, Baden-Powell, Kruger og Churchill, der fik skæbnesvanger betydning for hinanden og landenes fremtid. Om det kejserlige Tysklands ambition i det nuværende Namibia og om Første Verdenskrigs-krigsskibet Königsberg, som min suite var opkaldt efter. Om opdagelsesrejsende, fantaster og zulukrigere. Store formuer og dødelige tropesygdomme.
Den sidste bid mandelparfait er spist, og den sidste slurk Amaretto drukket. Jeg siger tak for en hyggelig aften til Margaret og Howard og går ned i loungevognen for at drikke kaffe der.
I morgen kører vi ind i Sydafrika, hvor historien stadig er i bevægelse. Tidligere på dagen, mens vi sad i den åbne udkigsvogn bagerst, havde Howard fortalt, at man var i færd med at omdøbe gaderne i hovedstaden Pretoria. Et for et bliver den gamle tids gadeskilte påført et rødt kryds, og et nyt med et afrikansk navn sat op nedenunder. Han havde indvendt, at der jo ikke var tale om, at man gav byen dens oprindelige navne tilbage, eftersom der ingen by var, før boerne byggede den, men at det nu engang var sådan det gik, og at man måtte affinde sig med det.
I loungevognens bløde lænestole og sofaer sidder flere af gæsterne og hygger sig med drinks og småsnakker. Damerne i farverige kjoler. Herrerne i nobelt mørk. Vi har nok forskellige grunde til at drømme os tilbage i tiden, men uanset hvilken, så er det en enestående oplevelse at rejse med Afrikas Stolthed.

Ophørsaftalen lød på et fast månedligt bidrag fra Jesper Nielsen til Brøndbys kasser på 3,3 millioner kroner samt et engangsbeløb på 41,3 millioner kroner i sommeren 2013. Det er dette beløb, der er sagens kerne.
Jesper Nielsen, der dengang tjente en større formue ved salg af de populære Pandora-smykker, står til en såkaldt ’earn out’ fra smykkefirmaet Pandora i sommeren 2015. Et engangsbeløb, der i 2009 blev vurderet til en værdi på en halv milliard kroner, og heraf er Brøndby stillet i udsigt at få sine 41,3 millioner kroner fra. Sidenhen er denne ’earn out’ nedskrevet til et rungende nul. Derfor afviser Brøndby ikke at trække Jesper Nielsen en tur i retten, som det fremgår af prospektet for alligevel at få pengene.
- Brøndby IF har derfor i henhold til ophørsaftalen taget forbehold for at indlede en voldgiftssag mod Kasi ApS, såfremt parterne ikke opnår enighed om beløbets størrelse, når engangsbeløbet forfalder til betaling, står der. Jesper Nielsen mener for sin part, at Brøndby ikke har gjort nok i bestræbelserne på at lande en ny hovedsponsor, som klubben forpligtede sig til i ophørsaftalen, og derfor vil han ikke betale yderligere. Brøndby har ikke haft en hovedsponsor, siden klubben indgik ophørsaftalen med Jesper Nielsen.
Brøndbys direktør Tommy Håkansson vil hverken be- eller afkræfte, at det kan ende med en voldgiftssag.

[b][url=http://www.regent-shoes.com]uggs sale men[/url][/b] I think this might have felt even more heartbreaking if we’d been watching an episode a week and building to this point in that slow and steady way of a typical TV season. (Thanks for that, NBC! Love you too.) Even with the scheduling ridiculousness, this got me. Parks might technically be a “low-stakes show” compared to the crazy sexy cool programs all over the TV-scape nowadays. But when character-crushing things happen on Parks , like when Leslie Knope loses her city council seat, I feel it. I feel it kind of a lot!
[b][url=http://www.regent-shoes.com]kids ugg boots[/url][/b] Yes, “nothing matters anymore” Leslie is hilarious and amazing and I am grateful for the time we had together, wearing Uggs and eating a Paunchburger and sleeping on a bench. Maybe this is partly because that losing a job feeling is something we all understand. And, of course, it’s Leslie. It’s our Leslie. We were with her on this journey and we wanted her to make it. It’s a nifty little trick that maybe the guys over at Marvel who keep cranking out the same movie with a slightly different spandex-clad superhero should try sometime: stakes built around character! An apocalypse does not an epic story make; it’s plot developments like this that actually have that end-of-the-world feeling, even though they’re just down-to-earth problems.
[b]cheap uggs for women[/b] For this haunted house — because remember, Halloween comes halfway through November when NBC postpones your episode airdate — Leslie and Ben dress up like Princess Buttercup and Wesley from The Princess Bride. It is exactly as adorable as you would expect. Wait, I lied. It is more adorable.
[b]ugg boots[/b] Sad Leslie gives some real-talk to children, as sad people are wont to do: “The scary stuff is invisible. Broken dreams, disappointment, achieving your greatest goal, having it all fall apart, and knowing that you’ll never fly any higher.” She levels with these young’uns because someone must. “It’s very possible that some of you have already peaked. It’s all downhill from here.”

It’s possible the other important takeaway here is that accepting that you’ve peaked is very freeing. And if anyone ever tells you that you have to keep climbing that hill, just look ‘em square in the eye and say, “Or do you?”
Also, I do not condone drunk tattoo getting. But let’s just say you do it anyway. I want you to be prepared to make good choices. So hypothetically speaking, if you decide to get a drunk tattoo, you should definitely go with Leslie’s plan: “I want a portrait of Eleanor Roosevelt, very classily done, and then SHE has a portrait of Pat Benatar on her arm — wait, no. Write ‘Ben.’”
Ann, that poetic and noble land mermaid, saves the day with perhaps the wisest words of the episode — “never send a husband to do a best friend’s job” — and reminds Leslie of who she really is: Someone who is resilient and bright and powerful, “an unstoppable force of energy,” who will use the 30 days she has left in office to work as hard as she can. Leslie is more than her job, everyone. Aren’t we all? Can we not all be unstoppable forces of energy? Is this really empowering to anyone else? Surrender all your dreams to me tonight, they’ll come true in the end!
A Deliciously Bold Chair
I don’t know how they could have planned this (see: above passive-aggressive raging at NBC), so I’ll just have to chalk it up to a remarkably serendipitous universe: This brilliant parody of Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP aired on the same day that the New York Times ran one of their most condescending “Style” pieces to date, a takedown of every would-be lifestyle guru’s website. (“’It’s about living a very one-of-a-kind, curated life and how to achieve that,’ Ms. Lively said. The world awaits.” Meee-yow, NYT . )
BLOOSH, for the uninitiated, is a weekly lifestyle e-mail written by Annabel Porter, former Eagleton phone book cover model. She’s legit, okay? She spent four months living in Kate Bosworth’s pool house. Remember that chair of Ron’s that won him “ Achievement in Chair ” way back when? Annabel loves Ron’s chair. Donna and Tom are fluent in lifestyle guru and attempt to prep Ron for his interview (Ron’s response: “I regret everything”). Tom is hoping Ron can put in a good word with Annabel, since Jean-Ralphio’s dad is going through with his takeover of Rent-a-Swag and Tom’s about to be out of business.
Donna watch loves and supports Donna’s thorough knowledge of the Annabel universe and her appraisal of everything at the party: “B-13 shots. Bird bath salts. A Champagne decanter.”
Here is a list of all of my favorite things that Annabel said:
“I’m not perfect. The average woman worries about what she looks like in a bathing suit. So does my nanny. So, I get it.”
“First of all, Mozambique cashmere is the new cast-iron stove. I have found some amazing new conflict-free paella recipes. And, finally, my favorite fishmonger makes house calls.”
“What I absolutely love about a Swanson is you can use it for anything. Make it a rustic accent piece in your solarium. Even better, use it as a focal point in your yoga tent.”
“We don’t do meals in my home. Every two hours in my home we eat a food tease. A seaweed lozenge.”
[ To Joan’s “I love your hair.”] : “Thank you! It’s genetic and unattainable.”
What could turn out to be quite the financial windfall for Ron (who, as we know, is already exorbitantly wealthy and cannot be motivated by money) winds up as a bust when he refuses to allow “thousands of little Chinese hands” to make his signature furniture piece. Ron only makes two chairs a year. Interesting business model, Ron.
Annabel ends the party with perhaps the only way out better than an Irish Good-bye, announcing, “This party is over. It no longer is. It was.”
In the end, April and Chris have some cute moments (talk about them in the comments, I’m all out of room, sorry!) and Tom takes some of Ron’s advice and twists it Haverford-style by selling Rent-a-Swag and getting enough money to start his next business venture.
