Hopper calls on Premier to apologise to Queenslands First Australians
After receiving a deputation with a number of First Australians led by Les Muckan at Parliament House yesterday, State KAP Leader, Ray Hopper, asked a question in parliament which mentioned Les who was present in the public gallery at the time.
The question received such jeering and laughter from government members, including the Premier and his Deputy, to the point that Les was extremely embarrassed and hurt.
As a First Australian, Les Muckan is acutely aware of the pain that his peoples have endured since the arrival of the first fleet. For Les to be mocked by government members in the manner in which they did towards him was disrespectful and I request that the Premier rectify this shameful act immediately Mr Hopper said.
I call on the Premier to unreservedly apologise on behalf of the government to Les Muckan who humbly represents First Australians in the state of Queensland Mr Hopper stated.
