Independent Paul Spencer of Queensland, responded :

Q1. What are your thoughts on asylum seekers?
Australia should accept political asylum seekers.
Q2. What are your thoughts on public transport?
I am interested in monorails. However, my knowledge of them is limited. We do believe public transport should be a public utility in order to remove the profit margin of private companies.
Q3. What are your thoughts on renewable energy?
It is very expensive. We have solar panels on our roof. We sell electricity to our power supplier at 51 cents a K/Watt and buy it from them at 17 cents a K/Watt (if these figures are not exact they are very close). Don’t ask me how it works. It reminds me of the egg salesman in “Catch 22”.
Q4. Do you support or oppose the introduction of the R18+ rating classification for video games?
We believe there is a need for a R18+ rating classification for some video games. Before laws are passed parliament must insure that those laws can be and will be enforced.
Q5. Do you support or oppose the proposed internet filter?
Neither Mary nor I know anything about the proposed internet filter.
Q6. Do you support or oppose gay marriage?
We believe it is up to the partners and their marriage celebrant.
Q7. What are your thoughts on abortion?
There are many reasons why a woman has an abortion. The physical and mental traumas that she goes through must be great. I will not add to those traumas with my uniformed opinion.
Q8. Do you support or oppose the legalization of voluntary euthanasia?
I would not want to go through the suffering that some people have gone through and are going through now. However, I could not ask anyone to suffer for me. As a Senator I will have to make decisions on many subjects and probably none closer to my heart as this one. But, those decisions will be made after much research on each subject, without any interference from political party or business and I will never take the easy way out by abstaining from a vote.
Q9. What are your thoughts on stem cell research?
I saw a documentary on a French clinic that uses stem cells from the patient’s nose to repair nerves in that patient’s spine. If this can be done I am all for it.

Q10. What are your thoughts on education?
Education is very important; convincing children that it is important is the challenge. We believe that having one stay at home parent would assist in a child’s behavior and education and that is why we are going to change the Tax System to allow single income families to grow and enjoy life. We want children to learn about goal setting and handling stress at an early age.
Q11. What are your thoughts on campaign disclosure?
All cost of running a campaign and where the money, to pay for those cost, came from should be tabled for the public to see. Our policy on Cost Saving goes further than just campaign finance.
Q12. What are your thoughts on climate change?
Over the last 40 years I have noticed a big change in the weather so therefore the climate has changed. What has caused the change is the question. Mary and I do not have enough facts yet to make an informed opinion. However, I can assure you that the decision we make will be what we consider to be the best for Australia now and in the future.
Q13. What are your thoughts on water?
It’s wet and I wish I could spend more time swimming in it.
Q14. Do you support or oppose standing order 50?
Neither Mary nor I have any idea what standing order 50 is.
Q15. Are there any local issues you are trying to highlight with your campaign?
There is a need to rid all levels of government of politicians that will not stand up for their electors. Those that follow the party line solely because it is the party line must go.
