#3 on the ticket for the Democratic Labor Party in Queensland, Noel Jackson, responded :

What are your thoughts on asylum seekers?

The Democratic Labor Party had large numbers of members who arrived in Australia as displaced persons after the Second World War. These people made very good citizens. The DLP was the only party to support the Vietnamese Boat People who arrived here in 1975-1978. However not all of the asylum seekers area ready to leave their past behind them. WE welcome asylum seekers who will assimilate into our community; but do not welcome those who want to set up ghettos of their own nationality in Australia. We have introduced a two for one policy by which we will accept two processed refugees from the main refugee camps in return for every boat person we send back to be processed.

What are your thoughts on public transport?

The DLP supports the extension of public transport. We support the retention of railways in public ownership and would nationalise without compensation any major infrastructure asset sold off by the Bligh government.

What are your thoughts on renewable energy?

The DLP was the first party to have what we then called a Conservation Policy. We support extensions to the Hydro Electric System, we support the use of Solar energy ; however the DLP energy policy is broader than this question allows.

Do you support or oppose the introduction of the R18+ rating classification for video games?

Support

Do you support or oppose the proposed internet filter?

NO comment at this stage, due to the fact that the proposals are not yet finalised.

Do you support or oppose gay marriage?

Oppose, as being a pointless exercise.

What are your thoughts on abortion?

Abortion is murder and should be so treated. Adoption is a far better idea

Do you support or oppose the legalisation of voluntary euthanasia?

Oppose Voluntary Euthanasia

What are your thoughts on stem cells research?

If stem cell research is based on the creation of Human life only to destroy such life then we oppose it totally.

Stem cell research from Adults should be encouraged and no other is acceptable.

What are your thoughts on education?

We support the right of a parent to choose the type of education that their child will receive. We therefore support a continuation of funding for both public and private schools.
We support getting back to basics particularly in Primary School Education, encouraging Science and Maths subjects along with English, literacy and Australian History. Emphasising academic or trade studies at Secondary School level. Continue to support TAFEs for Advanced Trades/ Technical Education

Greater encouragement and funding for research and lecturing in Sciences, Maths, Engineering and Languages ( especially English) subjects at the Tertiary (University) level.

What are your thoughts on campaign finance disclosure?

Current laws, if enforced, are adequate.

What are your thoughts on climate change?

Sceptical of Climate change and opposed to increased taxation measures based on carbon emissions.
The Earth’s climate has changed naturally over many millions of years and has shown to fluctuate over time frames of a couple of hundred years, such as the Roman Harming during the height of the Roman Empire around about 2000 years ago and the Medieval Warming about 1000 years ago. After those events the temperatures declined to previous levels.

There were no internal combustion machines during those times and this could not have caused the warming.

Volcanoes and massive forest /bush fires add a huge volume of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. To create additional taxes on that basis is peculiar – even laughable.

Climate Change is so complex that it is not understood as to the complex mechanism that drives it on a geological timescale. It is sad that so many politicians pronounce verdicts when no one is really in possession of the full facts. The research continues…

What are your thoughts on water?

The supply of clean drinking water is a government responsibility. Opposed to effluent in household water. Prefer Dams to desalination on technical and cost grounds.
We oppose adding of medications to water, such as fluoride. People should decide for themselves. We support the use of rain water tanks to augment local town supply.

Do you support or oppose standing order 50?

Support completely the opening of Parliament with prayers. Our own meetings are opened with modified versions of these prayers.

Are there any local issues you are trying to highlight with your campaign?

We would like to investigate how the Federal Parliament could help improve the lot for Queensland small town dwellers and those who live on islands to attract more people there. We need to decentralise our population, as the SE Corner of Queensland is becoming over crowded.

However, the lack of facilities such as public transport, health facilities and so forth deters many from living in those places.

Though group voting tickets have not been submitted yet, do you have an idea on where your preferences will be going?

Yes we do have an idea; but are not prepared to reveal the ticket until all negotiations are finished. When we negotiate we negotiate in good faith not make the decision and then negotiate. We prefer to be more consistent.

Trusting that this will provide some guide as to our policies in the DLP.

Yours faithfully,

Noel Jackson
