#1 on the ticket for NSW Independent Group AB, Michael Eckford, responded :

“Hello Editor

Yes I am an Independent candidate and my running mate Criselee Stevens and I both agree that we need significance changes to the way the Australian Governmnet has been doing business.

In regards to the question posed herein I respond accordingly:

1. The boat people.
It is our view that these people shoould be located compulsory out into remote commuinites and have them work within these communities until they are processed. This will also help many of these small commutnity by gaining in some cases important labor force and expertise in many fileds. Moreover, they will bring in a much needed boast to their löocal economy
2. ON transport we believe that All Australian governments must commit themselves to build fast train connections to all major provincial ciites andto subsidise air services, as most plans from regional centres are to costly and only public servants mostly use these plan services. We also need to upgrade all rail systems so as to get the big trucks off the raods. By doing this major industries will look to relocate if these objectives are met.
3. The government needs to promote the solar system for all houses on a wider and broader scale. The Government need also to establish solar farms in more regional township to provide for the local regions thereby cutting the need to have more coal fired power plants established
4. WE support the controls being put in place on rating video games
5. WE support internet filtering but always being mindful of what it is that we seek to filter. We must always promote freedom of speech and thought.
6. We must always permit freddoms in the public arena and each individual have the right to choose their sexual prefernces.
7. Abortion should be permitted omnly where the mitiagting circumstances require action based on the choice of the individual.
8. We support voluntary euthanasia only if the individual is suffering and are capable of making this choice personally.
9. Stem cell research is an advance in medicine but mush more needs to be done by th researchers to convince the public of the benifits of this work and advancement. At this stage we feel it shows promise but we need more convincing.
10. WE must make every effort to improve teaching and teaching methods. There are to many children coming out of scholl not being able to read or write. Numeracy and literacy issues must be addressed and we all must take responsibilities for this.
11. What is so difficult about doing spread sheets on donations during poltical campaigning. If donors give money then why would they not want their donations made public. We must destroy all this claok and dagger donations as one can only read from this that thy are donating for favours.
12. Climate change is real just look at Russia’s heat wave. We need much more public debate on this and react as a Nation not on knee jerk reactions only because it may have some political milage.
13. WE need a complete review of all water policies Nationwide. WEr must get th balance between public needs, environmental needs, cultural needs, and business needs.
14. We need to review this so that the intention is understood.,because like me I am not aware of this.
15. The issue of rural health is so important. My wife is a breast cancer sufferer who has beat it to this date but th financial costs were great I believe that we need to review all funding for rural and remote cronically ill people. There are ways in which we can change the way we do business without having to look for more money just provide 100% tax refundable for all those who can pay up front thereby giving the more needy greater access to cash funds. We also need to increase the funds for travel and accomdodation costs. This is absolutely necessary.
16. Our vote will go to other independents.

Regards
Michael Eckford and Criselee Stevens”

Please be cautious about conflating weather with climate. A record heatwave could be caused by climate change, or it could just be a heatwave. There is far more compelling evidence than looking at short-term weather phenomena.

he could have been alluding to the shift in standard deviation of weather… i mean, hurricanes will get worse, as will droughts and numerous other weather effects; but you’re right in that no particular event is actively caused by climate change.
