Liberal Democrats – You want my property? Pay for it!

You want my property? Pay for it!

Issued 12 August 2010

Liberal Democrats candidate for the seat of Riverina, Tim Quilty, today launched an attack on the major parties and their theft of the property and property rights of farmers, irrigators and landholders.

“Labor and the Greens are currently engaged in a grab of water allocations,” he said. “But this is just the latest in a long list of state and federal governments removing the property rights of individual landholders for inadequate compensation, or none at all.”

“Water licence confiscations, native vegetation legislation, restrictions on land use, logging bans – the Labor/Green alliance has been engaged in a sustained attack on farmers and other rural based industry for years. And always with little or no compensation.

“And the Federal government sidesteps its constitutional requirement to acquire property on “just terms” by farming it out to state governments whch have no such obligation.”

“The Coalition parties are not much better. The Libs and Nats promise to steal a slightly smaller portion of your property rights and expect you to be grateful. Time and again the Libs pass up the opportunity to oppose property theft in order to chase the city environment vote, and the Nats just sit there wagging their tails,” he said.

Only one party, the Liberal Democrats, is pledged to defend property rights under all circumstances and to oppose all property grabs. It will also seek to amend the NSW State Constitution to ensure just terms acquisition and compensation for all loss of usage rights.
