The Northern Military Intervention in 2006 under John Howard’s Liberal Government and continued by the Kevin Rudd Labor Government and the Julia Gillard Labor Government must be overturned. Every member of Federal Parliament and every Senator who does urgently and passionately advocate against it and pursue a vote to overturn, and who doesn’t vote to overturn, has blood on their hands and assists in the further enshrinement of racism.
The Sue Gordon ‘Little Children are Sacred Report’ has been discredited in terms of the anecdotal evidence that there was rampant child sexual predation, paedophilia and extraordinary levels of family domestic violence within Northern Territory Aboriginal communities.
The horrific en masse discrimination included the medical checks of 7,500 children. This is unheralded. It is Stolen Generation stuff, eugenics. Only 40 children were referred, for various reasons, to various agencies and children services. Therefore the crux of the Report has been discredited and the basis of the Intervention disproved. The media at the time played a significant in accepting the document as Gospel and assisted the Government in buying into hysteria. Accusations were leveled at Aboriginal communities that drunkeness and pornography had devastated their communities, when however for many communities they were dry communities, no alcohol and no semblance of any pornography.
These peoples lives are being destroyed. They are now humiliated by Income Management, the Basics Cards, Quarantining. Enough is enough. They are being coerced from their communities in potential town hubs. Housing is not being provided till they extricate themselves from their standing land rights. 22 houses have been built from $662 million allocated under Jenny Macklin’s auspice during the last several years. It is disgraceful.
It is urgent the Senate intervenes and pursues the overturning of the NT Intervention and that every Senator votes to overturn it. Rights must be restored and remedies enabled.
The elimination of all forms of racism must end.
