Kingaroy State High School and the environment will benefit from a grant of $50,000 to fund more solar power panels at the school if the Liberal National Coalition is elected to government, Federal LNP Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott said today.
Mr Scott said Kingaroy State High School would become part of a pilot solar energy program ahead of the commencement of a Coalition Government’s Solar Schools program from July 2011.
“This funding will be used to help install solar power at Kingaroy State High School, which currently has just one of its more than 20 buildings on solar power,” Mr Scott said.
“Converting Kingaroy SHS to a Solar School will help to reduce energy bills, reduce emissions, and also assist in educating the students about the importance of renewable energy.
“The Solar Schools program is a simple, practical way to help the environment and support our solar industry, which will have an immediate and effective impact in reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” he said.
The Coalition has allocated $100 million to Solar Schools and its sister initiative, Solar Towns, which will be implemented in eligible small towns.
The program will run for four years and support a minimum of 100 school projects. If the Coalition is elected, other schools in Maranoa will also be eligible to apply for grants.
Mr Scott said a Coalition Government would help the environment through local, practical and effective measures.
“The Coalition’s Direct Action Plan on Climate Change will achieve real reductions in emissions without the need for a carbon tax, which is so strongly advocated by Labor and The Greens,” Mr Scott said.
